There’s a quote I once read:
Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs.
The ones who accept you for who you are.
The ones who would do anything to see you smile,
and who love you no matter what.
Today I would like to introduce you to a special set of people whom I call my other parents: Carl and Kat. For over 15 years they have been one of my parent best friends and i’ve grown accustomed to calling them mom and dad. They are one of the coolest married couple I have ever met in my life.
If anyone wants to know what true love looks like, their love story could probably be made into a feature film. Carl and Kat grew up together in a small town in Massachusetts. Being childhood friends they didn’t know that eventually they would fall in love. When they realized they had fallen they couldn’t even wait to spend the rest of their lives together. Got married young and traveled the world together. What inspires me about these two is that Kat is a Cancer Survivor. Throughout her whole therapy Carl was there for her and took care of her. Never left her side, and still loves her, grey hairs and all. (Which by the way Kat, you’re super trendy!)
Through them I’ve gained my love for Rock and Roll, horror films, tequila and a delicious menu of healthy american and mexican food. They live in Las Vegas so when they come into town i get excited to taste their new recipes, hear their new playlists of AC/DC and even finding out which of the new horror films are out.
I truly believe that having a pet is a great form of therapy. A couple of years ago, one of our dogs (Magec) had puppies and the one meant for me, I ended up giving to Kat. Since Kat has never had any dogs, it was meant to be because Kat had love at first sight when she met Coco. So besides having a child of their own (Carl Jr.), they now have Coco who is the most intelligent blinged-out dog. Coco is basically their baby girl and im happy that she went home into the BEST hands.
Today, we celebrated an early birthday for Carl before they headed back home to Vegas. Besides, the love of my own parents I am inspired by Carl and Kat. They epitomize the love most people strive for. Through sickness and health, for better and for worse rocking out and traveling together with Coco.
Its days like this to remind you true love still exists. I want that kind of love and hopefully someday I will also be that lucky. I’m grateful to be surrounded by so much love and people who inspire me to be better.
Happy Early Birthday to my other Dad! I love you both!
