Today I helped out at our Traveling Stories booth at the the Good on You 5K organized by The Jared F. Purton Foundation. The purpose of this 5K Charity walk was designed to help promote volunteerism to different groups to help make a positive change in the community. About 10% of the proceeds go to the local charities. This year their focus was on charities that promote youth as part of their mission.
It was really fun to see many people come out to support the cause. I was impressed by the brave participants as they wore costumes in the early morning San Diego heat.
Today we got to promote the Traveling Stories cause to over 70+ participants. I think its great that the Jared F. Purton Foundation helps spread awareness of charities and helps promote volunteerism. It connects those people who want to assist in spreading kindness and knowledge.
Its days like this that make me hopeful that there are many people out there who also want to help make the world (or communities) a brighter place. I know many people feel like they don’t have time in their busy schedule to give some of their time. However, I urge you at least once in your life, may it be 2 hours or more. You might just get a little taste of satisfaction knowing you helped out something without any incentive. You could always help out something you’re very passionate about or even “just because”.
The first step to being a good person is learning to give back. The best thing about volunteering? Its free!!
